At Benny's, it's one of the first things we think about.
Every frame we create is handmade in Northern Italy using premium materials sourced from some of the most respected suppliers in the eyewear industry. It's not the easiest way to make reading glasses, and it's certainly not the cheapest. But we believe the difference is worth it.
Why Italy?
Northern Italy has been at the center of the eyewear world for generations.
The region is home to some of the most skilled eyewear artisans, specialized manufacturers, and material suppliers anywhere in the world. In fact, many of the world's most respected eyewear brands produce their frames there.
The same attention to detail that Italy is known for in fashion, furniture, and automotive design can be found in its eyewear industry. It's a culture that values craftsmanship and takes pride in making things the right way.
That's exactly why we chose to build Benny's there.
It Starts with Better Materials
The quality of a frame begins long before it's assembled.
Many inexpensive reading glasses are made from low-grade plastics that can feel brittle, lose their shape, or break after only a short period of use.
Our frames are made from premium Italian acetate, a material known for its durability, comfort, and rich color depth. Unlike cheaper plastics, acetate can be polished to a beautiful finish and is designed to hold up to years of daily wear.
We pair those materials with optical-grade lenses featuring anti-reflective and blue-light filtering technology, helping provide a clearer and more comfortable viewing experience.
Handmade, Not Mass Produced
There's a reason handmade frames feel different.
Each Benny's frame passes through numerous steps during production, many of which are completed by skilled craftspeople rather than automated machinery. Components are shaped, polished, assembled, inspected, and finished with a level of care that simply isn't possible on a high-speed production line.
The result is better fit, better finish, and greater consistency from one frame to the next.
It's a slower process. That's exactly the point.
